From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
